MAN: Naked ape or a fallen angel?
by Rob Lamont

1. What does people shares in common with animals?
2. What do people have in common with angels and spiritual beings?
3. Humans are both physical and spiritual beings but how do you think we are unique?

(Check out the following Bible quotes)

Genesis 1:26-31 "Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'
1:27 ‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
1:28 God blessed them and said to them,
"Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.
Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.'
1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 1:30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground - everything that has the breath of life in it - I give every green plant for food." And it was so. 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning -the sixth day."

Genesis 2:7 "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

Psalm 8:4-6 "what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 8:5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honour. 8:6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet"

4. We are designed and made by God and God doesn't make rubbish? Underline anything that strikes you from the above Bible quotes.

Even after things went wrong, we were still in the image of God!
James 3:9 "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness"

Jesus shows what the true image of God is like.
Col.1:15 "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation."

5. How should Christians act if we are in the image of God according to the following Bible quotes?
Phil.3:21 "who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body."
Ephesians 4:23-24 "to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
Col. 3:10 "and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."

6. "We are of worth because of  whom we are not what we do" What do you think this means?
